Why is Dumo Lulu-Briggs running for Governor?
What are the issues?
Rivers State that was once the envy of Nigerians on account of its peaceful ambiance; beautiful culture and the general material wellbeing, has lost its glory. Gone are the days when Port Harcourt (the garden city) was the preferred destination for most Nigerians and Multinationals. Gone are the days when students from other states flooded Rivers State to enjoy its free and quality education. Gone are the days when the Rivers man and woman held his/her head up with pride. Rivers State is now known for all the wrong reasons: Political killings; poor and brash political leadership, impunity, insecurity, sprawling poverty, and general disorder.
The average Rivers person has been traumatized and impoverished and has lost self-esteem. The happiness and economic well-being of the individual Rivers person has taken the back seat in governance. Our people are poor and homeless; the elderly is abandoned; our youths are jobless and our children are out of school.
DLB, an accomplished businessman, technocrat, politician, philanthropist, a grassroots mobilizer of a good family background shall Restore the Pride and Dignity of the Rivers Person through direct people-centered policies and programmes; guided by the mantra: “In vain do we build the city if we do not first build the people”. There must be a deliberate balance in human and physical development.
I will give political and economic power back to the people
Rivers State needs deliverance, it needs liberation and it needs the blessings of God Almighty. The state is extremely rich in human and natural resources but the problem is that the leaders have their eyes high up, too high to see the ordinary people. I will reverse this trend! I will make politics about the people!!
As governor of the Rivers State, my focus will be on the grassroots, the ordinary people, the local communities. I will reverse the condition where the country and the state are rich but our people are poor; where the government and companies are rich but their hosts are poor.
My administration will be about the ordinary people of Rivers State – the people of Ogoni; the people of Ogba, Ekpeye, Ndoni and Engenni; the people of Andoni, Bonny, Opobo and Nkoro; the people of Ikwerre, Etche and Oyigbo; the people of Okrika, Kalabari, Kula, Degema, Abua and Odual.
My administration will make the ordinary Rivers man and woman the focus of all policies, strategies, and action. I will put political power in the hands of the Rivers people. I will empower Rivers people to control politics in the state; empower Rivers people to decide the direction of development and the deployment of state resources. I will reverse the prevailing politics for township people, politics for the rich and super-rich, politics for those who only want to take for themselves from the public coffers and keep the ordinary people perpetually impoverished.
My administration will take political influence from the cities and bring it to the local communities, take political power and influence from the ‘big oga dem’ and put in the hands of the ordinary people. I will return local government administration back to the people to decide who runs the councils. I will not touch council funds.
