A CALL FOR OUTRIGHT CANCELLATION OF THE ILL-FATED MARCH 9, 2019 GOVERNORSHIP AND STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS IN RIVERS STATE

DLB CAMPAIGN ORGANIZATION

PRESS RELEASE

March 11, 2019

A CALL FOR OUTRIGHT CANCELLATION OF THE ILL-FATED MARCH 9, 2019 GOVERNORSHIP AND STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS IN RIVERS STATE

The suspension of all election processes in Rivers State as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC must have come to most well-meaning citizens and residents as a relief, considering the widespread outcry and condemnation of the conduct of the March 9, Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections in the state.

We commend INEC for the promptness in taking this decision at the time it did given the unfolding ugly situation in Rivers State which was heating up an already volatile political atmosphere. The March 9, elections in the state had not only recorded widespread incidents of disruptions of the electoral processes but has recorded the harassment and intimidation of voters and loss of lives of civilians and security personnel.

INECs action truncated the activities of bloodthirsty politicians who were already threatening more violence and bloodshed. The suspension of the electoral processes was a disappointment to the agents of destruction who were already threatening mayhem had INEC not stepped in.

From the events that characterized the March 9, 2019 Governorship and Assembly Elections, there is no doubt that INEC did the right and appropriate thing by suspending the electoral processes in Rivers State. This has restored faith and confidence in a process that was marred by violence, thuggery and militarization of the entire process.

Based on graphic and detailed reports from our agents across Rivers State, we state as follows that:

1. Thugs and cultists, some of them armed with lethal weapons, said to be acting in the interest of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP invaded several voting units, intimidating voters, carting away electoral materials, harassing INEC staff and generating fake results in areas under their forceful control.

2. In the same manner, alleged influential supporters and thugs of a hitherto obscure party, the African Action Congress AAC, unleashed terror on the state with the supposed backing of state security agencies. The AAC gang also invaded several voting units under their control, intimidating voters, carting away electoral materials, harassing INEC staff and generating their own version of election results.

3. The Rivers State electorate was on March 9, said to be caught between the armed thugs/cultists of the PDP and the state security agencies supporting the AAC.

4. Media houses are awash with bizarre stories of abducted, intimidated, harassed INEC staff, held hostage in covert locations and compelled at gun-point to announce results of phantom elections, which in the words of the INEC staff were not true reflections of what transpired at the polling units and collation centers, but results already computed and tabulated by their captors and abductors.

5. The persons who perpetrated these wanton destructions of electoral materials, harassment and abduction of electoral officers, disruptions of the electoral process and hijacking of already completed ballots with the intent to mutilate and falsify the results from such areas, acted with audacity, impunity and operated freely in subverting the electoral process and the law of the land.

6. The overwhelming presence of the military apparently to check the activities of armed youths and forestall the subversion of the electoral process, created a tensed atmosphere which scared away and discouraged voters and accounted for very low turnout during the elections.

Against the backdrop of the these severe discrepancies, which are clear contraventions of the Electoral Law 2010 (as amended) and the regulation and guidelines for the conduct of elections 2019, we hereby demand the following:

1. The outright cancellation of the March 9, 2019 Rivers state Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections in Rivers State and rescheduling of the elections within the stipulated timeframe of the Electoral Law.

2. The redeployment from the state of all critical staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC who participated and were involved in the March 9 election in Rivers State because of the general trauma they have suffered from their harassment, abduction and intimidation.

3. The arrest and prosecution of persons, no matter how highly placed, who were responsible for these electoral frauds that have put Rivers State into disrepute and embarrassed the country.

4. We call on patriotic Rivers people to stand up and save the state from the machinations of bloodthirsty politicians and avert the impending gloom and bloodbath which hovers over Rivers state.

DUMO LULU-BRIGGS REMAINS ACCORD GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE DESPITE HIGH COURT JUDGEMENT

DUMO LULU-BRIGGS REMAINS ACCORD GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE DESPITE HIGH COURT JUDGEMENT

DLB CAMPAIGN ORGANIZATION

PRESS RELEASE

February 28, 2019

Dumo Lulu-Briggs remains Accord Governorship Candidate despite High Court Judgement

The Dumo Lulu-Briggs Campaign Organization has received the news of the judgement of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt concerning the identity of the authentic governorship candidate of Accord in Rivers State; and states as follows that:

1. The matter before the court was not about the Rivers State Accord eligibility to be on the ballot for the 2019 governorship election but about who is the legitimate governorship candidate. The Rivers State Accord therefore remains on the ballot.

2. The judgement delivered by Justice E.A. Obile of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt did not come to us as a surprise because the learned trial judge did not hide his bias throughout the duration of the hearing, which led to the early request for his lordship to recuse himself and the subsequent withdrawal of Wilcox Abereton SAN, counsel to Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, when his lordship decided to continue with the case.

3. A petition has since been written to the National Judicial Council against the trial judge on the matter. The entire judgement has no legal standing because the defendants in the case were not given the opportunity for fair hearing and were not given the opportunity to replace their counsel who withdrew from the case.

4. The Dumo Lulu-Briggs campaign organization is not unaware of the shenanigan and evil machinations of governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Governor Nyesom Wike, to use the courts, which has been severally described as “Wike’s Supermarket” to knock out strong contenders in the governorship race.

5. Nyesom Wike’s connection in this dubious act is buttressed by the fact that Mr. Precious Baridoo’s counsel Wori N. Wori Esq is from the law firm of E.C. Aguma SAN, the deceased immediate past Attorney General to Nyesom Wike. Furthermore, Mr. Precious Baridoo got ‘elected’ as Rivers IPAC Chairman months after his purported nomination as Accord governorship candidate, a position known to be occupied only by the cronies of the governor.

6. Recently, during the PDP Presidential rally in Port Harcourt, Precious Baridoo did not only declare support for the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, he led 56 so-called governorship candidates to step down for Governor Wike and endorsed him for a second term. The said Precious Baridoo, who has since been disowned by the Accord National Working Committee, was appointed into the Caretaker Committee of Khana Local Government Area by the Wike-led PDP government.

7. Our faith in the Nigerian Judiciary cannot be diminished by the obvious miscarriages of a few. We are focused and ready to not just vacate this scandalous judgement but obtaining the mandate which Rivers people are eager to offer Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs.

8. Our legal team has filed an appeal and a stay of execution and so Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs remains the governorship candidate of Accord in Rivers State.

9. The aim of the sponsors of this judicial miscalculation to stop Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs and deny the Rivers electorate the much-needed quality governance that the Accord represents shall be disgraced at the end. We therefore call on all our supporters and the good people of Rivers State to remain resolute and focused.

10. The members and supporters of Rivers Accord should go about their lawful businesses assured that light always triumphs over darkness.

RE: POSTPONEMENT OF THE GENERAL ELECTIONS BY INEC

RE: POSTPONEMENT OF THE GENERAL ELECTIONS BY INEC

THE DUMO LULU BRIGGS GOVERNORSHIP CAMPAIGN ORGANISATION

PRESS RELEASE

Saturday February 16th, 2019

The Governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Rivers State, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs has reacted to the sudden rescheduling of the General Elections only a few hours before the processes commenced. Chief Lulu-Briggs expressed concern that the suddenness of the decision must have caught all stakeholders by surprise but encouraged Nigerians and the international community to maintain faith in the process.

According to Lulu-Briggs, INEC is managed by eminent Nigerians who should take decisions in the interest of the nation. We should therefore give them the benefit of the doubt and patiently wait for the next scheduled date. It is better to do it later and get it right than rush into an election that may have credibility issues. We must as a people bear the sacrifices that would help us get things better.

In his statement Chief Lulu Briggs, said “Yes, the rescheduling has cost us enormous economic, social and psychological resources as a nation, political parties, politicians and even citizens. However, no price should be too much for us to pay for quality outcomes and for the general good of our dear country. Let us therefore exercise more patience and go out to perform our civic duty on the new date for the good of Rivers State and Nigeria.”

God bless Rivers State and Nigeria.

WHAT FELIX OBUAH FEARS ABOUT DUMO LuLULU-BRIGGS

WHAT FELIX OBUAH FEARS ABOUT DUMO LuLULU-BRIGGS

PRESS RELEASE

What Felix Obuah fears about Dumo Lulu Briggs

Again one is inclined to respond to the absolutely baseless statement by the soon to be retired politician and Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Felix Obuah, and released by his multi-purpose aide, Jerry Nedaam.

This time the PDP chairman is spreading falsehood to the effect that the Accord in Rivers State is not campaigning. Even when the statement is untrue and all know it so, sane minds would shudder that a party chairman worthy of his office would bother himself about the political activities of a rival party. As politicians we understand the worries of Mr. Obuah. We sympathize with him because his promise to his boss that he would stop Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs from the governorship election on Saturday March 2nd has failed.

The fear of Felix Obuah and his principal is that the Accord governorship candidate, Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs will defeat the PDP candidate clear and square. Mr. Obuah is aware that the Accord revolution is massive, sweeping across not just the Orashi region, where hundreds of PDP members are joining the Accord.

As Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs would say, “When they go low, we go higher.” The PDP should focus on their crowd renting campaigns while we reach our people and let’s meet at the polls on March 2nd.

ACCORD CAMPAIGN SHIP SAILS THROUGH ABUA/ODUAL AND AHOADA-EAST

ACCORD CAMPAIGN SHIP SAILS THROUGH ABUA/ODUAL AND AHOADA-EAST

As the ACCORD party continue in her Campaign of practical transformation for Rivers State through the 23 LGAs. Yesterday, Monday, 11th February, 2019, she sailed through Abua/Odual and Ahoada-East LGAs respectively.

On her arrival, the most popular and the party to take over the Leadership of the State, the ACCORD party, ably led by its Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates, Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs and Otua Hart Nakwaasah, was given an enviable rousing welcome. It was clearly a great honour, as Royal Fathers, Chiefs, Elders, Fathers, Mothers and Youths in excitement left their barns open and came out in their large numbers to show solidarity of acceptance and confidence in the ACCORD campaign team.

The candidates, in their bid to continuously feel the pulse of the people, continued in their door to door interactions with them: the markets, the streets, the downtrodden, the commons, town hall meetings and every nook and crannies of these LGAs were touched, none was left out. It was a great honour to the team, for having the privilege to speak to the people of their ambition and unleash their transformation agenda to them. According to the team, they are here to put their feet in shoes of the people; know their pains, and emptiness, and promised to fill the emptiness and take the pains away if voted into office at the victory of 2cd March, 2019.

It is not an error that, the ACCORD party is the only Party that has taken her door to door campaign to the innermost part of the grassroots, and not merely grassroots that are already urbanized, Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs’s Philanthropical nature has propelled it to be so. For It is said that, “if the value of a thing isn’t known, then abuse is inevitable”. Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs knows what it means to be empty, to feel the pains associated with hunger and starvation, to be lonely and abandoned, the feelings when one loses his or her self-esteem and to be unable to fit into the present stratum of societal value. And what kind of Governor would he be, if he doesn’t go down to those that are the direct receivers of these blows?. And because his nature has been wired with a compassionate heart, his campaign went farther deep to reach out to these ones. This is how important this seat is to him and the reason for such deep reach outs; they are the most important to him, and the reason he is in the race. So, it became a necessity for him to act thus. This to us, is an act driven by sincerity of purpose, especially for Rivers State and her people. God has blessed Rivers State with a Giant hearted Leader like Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs, let’s not take this opportunity for granted, but grab it with both arms.

Indeed, the people lacks the presence of governance and living in abject poverty. Obviously feeling abandoned and lonely as though they aren’t part of the State, even though they are. The compassionate heart of Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs could not restrain himself at this sight, and so, quickly reassured the people that, “all these will be a thing of the past when we come into office by the special grace of God”. And this is why our administration shall be known for “Mr Jobs”, so that we will all be able to put food on our tables, become self reliant and be privileged to living in an enabling environment where development will be felt in all nook and crannies. He professed.

It is a known fact that, administrations before this time, especially the one presently administrating the pains we feel today, have consistently abused the office of the leadership of the State. It’s obvious they aren’t there for the people but for themselves. They don’t know what the people they claim to lead are going through, they don’t even know them, and so, they end up grossly abusing the office and being insensitive to the people, keeping them under abject poverty and shamefully retrogressed in all manner of meaningful developmental strata.

Whereas Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs is a name that is synonymous with Human Capacity Development, one that is Policy driven and ready to drive home the real essence of Governance to the people at all levels. His emergence is a relief to our sufferings, a breath to life, a hope never expected, a grace and a reaffirmation of God still rules in the affairs of men. With him, Rivers State will be a State that will be set as a standard for other States and developed Cities outside the shores of Nigeria.

In all, the people were elated and now more than before, ready to be transformed. This they showed by displaying their PVCs, as a proof that they are ready to bring joy to their domains by voting in Leaders that have them at heart and voting out those that doesn’t. That, because none has ever remembered their existence in this deepest part of the State, save the ACCORD campaign Team and her candidates, which has in turn brought smiles on their once “hope lost faces”, they will by all means necessary give them not only their support, but their votes, they assured.

The ACCORD Ship continues her sail farther into the deeper most part of the rest of the 23 LGAs. Join us in One ACCORD as we all feel our pains together, know our emptiness and dare to not only proffer solutions, but fill the emptiness and remove the pains, that we may once more enjoy a Rivers State of our DREAM when we take over the Leadership of the State after the victory of 2nd March 2019. ACCORD is the Party.

  • Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs and Otua Hart Nakwaasah remains the Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates
  • Number One is the position of the Party on the Ballot
  • Rivers State is the State

GOOD MORNING RIVERS STATE

GOOD MORNING RIVERS STATE

My dear Rivers compatriots,

Our dear state is at the threshold of history as we approach the forthcoming polls, especially the governorship election scheduled for March 2, 2019. I see a new dawn – a turning point.

Rivers State has lost its rightful status in the comity of Nigerian states as a result of the actions and inactions of its political leaders since 1999. For almost two decades, Rivers State has had governors and leaders who use our people as ladders to climb to power and dump them afterwards, as worthless observers.

Twenty years is such a long period because majority of our active population between the age of 18-35 years, were either not born in 1999 or too young to know that Rivers State once had a glorious era, propelled by patriotic leaders. These leaders transformed the state into a preferred destination for Nigerians and foreigners alike. Life in Rivers State was never as it is today.

Our people have been impoverished and traumatized, leaving a large segment of the population poor and homeless; the elderly are abandoned; majority of our youths are jobless and a large percentage of our children are out of school. Our people are made to see crumbs as real meals, but it has not always been this way.

Our founding fathers toiled to have Rivers State created by the military administration of General Yakubu Gowon in 1967 with great expectations that their efforts would usher in limitless opportunities and boundless prosperity for our people.

The pioneering military administration of Navy Commander Alfred Diette-Spiff laid a solid foundation for the state in human and infrastructural development and this was complemented by the civilian administrations of Governors Melford Obene Okilo and Rufus Ada George. That was the golden era of Rivers history.

Incidentally, the years between the Diette-Spiff’s and Melford Okilo’s administrations were the formative periods of my life. It was a period when governance was effective and the institutions of government and society were very supportive. Although life was very tough for my family, the governance and societal structures of the time supported me to be the person that I am today.

Our state had great leaders like Chief Harold Dappa Biriye, Chief G.K.J. Amachree, Chief Paul Birabi, Chief E. J. A. Oriji, Chief Pikibo Daniel Kalio, Chief S.A.J. Wachukwu, Chief Dr. Nabo Graham-Douglas, Chief P.G. Warmate, Chief Wenike Briggs, Chief Isaac John Feberesima, Dr. G.B. Leton and Chief Emmanuel Aguma.

Yes, we had patriots like Ken Saro Wiwa, Chief Edward Kobani, Dr. Obi Wali, High Chief O.B. Lulu-Briggs and Sir Francis Ellah. We still have great leaders like Eze Emmanuel N.B. Opurum, Chief C. D. Orike, Sir Victor Odili, Chief G.T.G. Toby, Prof. Dagogo M.J. Fubara, Chief T.O.Graham-Douglas, Chief A.K. Horsfall, Dr. Ombo Isokrari and Mrs Ella Prest.

These leaders worked assiduously, some with their blood, to make Rivers State the envy of Nigerians – a land of love, peace and freedom. Their achievements are engraved in the annals of time and the expectation was that succeeding administrations would key into the landmark achievements of these great leaders, but that was not to be.

Since 1999, a different kind of political leaders who do not share the intrinsic values of patriotism and selflessness as espoused by our founding fathers, has dominated the political space of Rivers State, entrenching, recycling and multiplying themselves.

Rivers State is now a shadow of its glorious past and the founding fathers that are still alive are in shock that in their lifetime, the gains they achieved for the state have been so drastically reversed, while those who have passed on are turning in their graves.

It is indeed a travesty of natural justice that a state as endowed in human and natural resources as Rivers State can have its people so marginalized and pauperized. There is no gainsaying that the problem of Rivers State is that of political leadership.

But a glorious morning beckons. A wind of change is blowing across the state from the mainland down to the creeks. Our people now have the opportunity to put an end to our uninspiring past and tread a new path to liberation. We have an opportunity to free ourselves from political leaders who stand in the way of our dreams, bruise our people and lord it over us. We have an opportunity to elect a visionary leader that envisions greatness for Rivers State.

My dear Rivers people, I offer myself for election as governor of Rivers State with the conviction that once we get the 2019 politics right, we shall get the governance right. When we get the governance right, we shall get the economy right and usher in a new era of prosperity and progress for our people.

I present myself for election as Governor on the platform of the ACCORD. I have no godfather but God the father. I desire to take us from this era of policy implementation deficiency to the place of healthy and vibrant institutional governance; where no man, no matter how connected, can be bigger than any state institution.

The task to rescue Rivers State in 2019 must be achieved across political party lines, although those who have held the political space captive would strive to hide behind party colours and party logos – the instruments with which they have held unto power since 1999.

I say to you that there is no other power that would decide who becomes governor of Rivers State in 2019 except the votes of Rivers people under the guidance of God.

2019 should not just be a transition from one governor to another governor or from one party to another. It should be a turning point in our history -a defining moment that alters the future of Rivers people from the current disorder, pain and tears to an era of prosperity that leaves no Rivers person or resident behind.

The baton of political leadership has to pass to a new set of leaders that would unite with Rivers people to fight hunger, disease, illiteracy and tyranny as common enemies.

It is a glorious morning yet on Election Day.

Good morning Rivers people.

Yours ceaselessly,

CHIEF DUMO LULU-BRIGGS

BARIDOO HAS NEVER BEEN RIVERS ACCORD GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE – Dumo Lulu-Briggs Campaign Organization

BARIDOO HAS NEVER BEEN RIVERS ACCORD GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE – Dumo Lulu-Briggs Campaign Organization

Our attention has been drawn to several news reports published in some national papers, in which a certain Mr. Precious Baridoo has gone to court to claim that he is the Rivers State Governorship candidate of the Accord Party.

While we do not wish to join issues with the said Mr. Precious Baridoo over his claims, especially since the matter is now before a court of competent jurisdiction, we do however wish to state our position clearly and categorically as it concerns our Principal, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, who has been mentioned in the matter as follows:

1. That the said Precious Baridoo was appointed as Ag. Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Accord Party by the National Executive Council of the Party in 2014.

2. That on October 4, 2018, the National Working Committee of the Accord Party, in accordance with its party constitution duly produced by Consensus, Mr. Nelson Amieye, who emerged as the Rivers State Accord Party Governorship candidate for the 2019 elections.

3. That Mr. Nelson Amieye was legally and legitimately substituted with Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, as the Rivers State Accord Party Governorship Candidate, when he, Nelson Amieye, voluntarily relinquished his nomination through a sworn affidavit deposed by him, in the window for substitution of candidates provided by INEC for political parties.

4. That the National Working Committee has duly submitted the name of Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs as the substantive and legitimate Rivers State Governorship candidate of the Accord Party for the 2019 general elections.

We have it on good authority that Mr. Precious Baridoo did not buy the expression of intent and nomination forms for the Rivers State governorship election under the Accord Party for the 2019 elections.

We are also in possession of incontrovertible facts that the claims that Mr. Precious Baridoo duly resigned his position as Accord Party Chairman to contest the October 4, Governorship primaries of the party, is patently and administratively false.

Ongoing investigation suggests that Mr. Precious Baridoo concocted the narrative of his emergence as Rivers Accord party governorship candidate on October 4, 2018, even when he proceeded to contest and emerged as Chairman of Rivers State IPAC in November, 2018, a position he holds to date.

We refer to a purported letter issued by the Rivers State Accord Party, dated December 3, 2018 and signed by one David Ashipa Sunday (JP) as Secretary, Accord Party, Rivers State, in which the Chairman Precious Baridoo was congratulated for emerging the Rivers State Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council IPAC – a position he can only contest as the state chairman of a political party.

We are at a loss to fathom how a man who claims to have resigned as Accord Party Chairman to contest the October 4, governorship primaries, can in November present himself as the same Accord Party Chairman who contested the IPAC election and emerged as Chairman.

Did he turn back the hands of time? Can this therefore not be described as a case of grand forgery and willful impersonation by Mr. Precious Baridoo, who obviously must have been contracted by some dubious forces to carry out this nefarious act?

Without interfering with the matter already before the Court, we state unequivocally that following from our own investigations, for which we have concrete documentary evidence, that Mr. Precious Baridoo has no locus whatsoever to go to court over an election he did not contest.

His action, in our opinion is driven by a mischievous and a devious intent to carry out the dubious machinations of those who are afraid of the growing strength and pedigree of Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs and the Accord Party as we approach the 2019 general elections.

Furthermore, the Constitution of the Accord Party provides internal mechanism for conflict resolution which Precious Baridoo did not exhaust before running to court.

Our position on this matter is very clear. Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs is the substantive and legitimate Rivers State Governorship candidate of the Accord party for the 2019 general elections. His name has been duly submitted to INEC by the National Working Committee of the party and the position of the law is very clear on this matter. Precious Baridoo has never been the Rivers State Accord party governorship candidate. This is our stand.

Long Live Accord Party
God Bless Rivers State

DUMO LULU-BRIGGS PLEDGES TO EDUCATE RIVERS YOUTHS, NEXT GENERATION, ACCEPTS ENDORSEMENT OF RIVERS STUDENTS LEADERS TO RUN AS GOVERNOR IN 2019

DUMO LULU-BRIGGS PLEDGES TO EDUCATE RIVERS YOUTHS, NEXT GENERATION, ACCEPTS ENDORSEMENT OF RIVERS STUDENTS LEADERS TO RUN AS GOVERNOR IN 2019

Rivers state Accord Party governorship candidate, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs has pledged to make the education of Rivers youths and the next generation of Rivers state children the prime responsibility of his administration, when he becomes the governor of Rivers state in 2019.

Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs made this pledge, when the leadership of the entire Rivers State students community paid him a courtesy call, at his campaign office in Port Harcourt, even as he stressed that the commitment to educating, empowering and building youth capacity was his main motivation for contesting the 2019 elections.

The Rivers state Accord Party Gubernatorial candidate, who decried the debilitating state of public schools in Rivers State and lamented the unfortunate situation where bursaries and other forms of assistance and opportunities have been denied students of tertiary institutions, assured the group that one cardinal point of his government, when given the mandate by Rivers people, would be the revamping and reinvigorating of all state schools and educational institutions in the state.

He said:  “I live for the young people. You are the reason why I am contesting this election. The election of 2019 is about you. It is about your future. The only reason you will want to vote for Dumo Lulu-Briggs is because you believe that the Government of Dumo Lulu-Briggs will translate into an improvement of your living standards,”  he charged them.

Speaking further, the popular Rivers politician recalled how the Rivers state of old was a place where young people drew inspiration and followed up their dreams because the society was caring and gave the young people hope, adding that in those days the institutions were effective and as an undergraduate at the Ahmadu Bello University he never had to bother about his bursary because the then Rivers state government made sure that his bursary was paid promptly and regularly, a situation which was a far cry from what obtains in Rivers State today.

“I did my University first degree at Ahmadu Bello University and for the whole four years I spent in Maiduguri, I never came to Port Harcourt once to ask for my bursary. My bursary was paid to me right there in Maiduguri. In this same Rivers state. So I was astounded when you talked about no bursary, no opportunities. I can understand what you mean because if I didn’t get the opportunities I would not be where I am today. Rivers state was caring in those days.

“We may not be able to rekindle the society of old but we must do the most we can to care especially for those who live in the shadows of life.

“It is not how much money we have saved up in bank accounts that will guarantee you a decent future. It is the institutions we strengthen that will hold all your aspirations. So for me as Dumo Lulu-Briggs, I have sworn eternal fidelity to the pursuit of a just cause for every Rivers Man, woman and child,” he promised.

Harping more on the nature of governance and the need for Rivers people, particularly the young people to get involved as volunteers and participants in the political and election process, Dumo Lulu-Briggs took a swipe at the present leadership which has not only failed to empathise with the people but has sadly displayed the incapacity to harness the enormous potentials inherent in Rivers State.

He said: “People in government can no longer simulate a grief they do not feel and an affection they do not bear. But you will also not blame them as they have done the best they can so we must not begrudge anybody for the situation we have found ourselves in. However, we have a responsibility to recover our state and give back to us that which God has given to us.

“Rivers people and Rivers state has enormous potentials and you have to take ownership of this elections. You are not just voting for Dumo Lulu-Briggs You must take it as though each and every one of us is on the ballot and that when you cast your votes you are actually voting for your future. And when we get into government, our scorecard will not only be for the number of roads we have built but most importantly, for the number of people we have taken out of poverty into prosperity. The education of every Rivers person is an irreducible minimum. It is an enforceable right for every Rivers person to be educated by the Rivers state government.

“The suffering in the land is too much. People need a government that will work for every Rivers man, woman and child. We know exactly the issues that confront us today and we have a clear vision of how to get us out of where we are today into that prosperity that all of us so badly desire. I thank God that I know the things to do and I have the desire to do the things that must be done,” he said confidently.

While urging them to always be prayerful for the divine guidance and protection for those who are willing to offer proper leadership to the people, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs assured the students that he will run an accessible government which would not only listen to the students, but most importantly ensure that as leaders of tomorrow, appropriate structures would be put in place to prepare them both for leadership and for the future, even as he promise to address some of their immediate needs as a demonstration of the commitment to their requests and pledged that he would as a leader, subdue his passion and control his appetite, stressing that it is time to do the peoples work and he would take that work seriously.

Earlier, the heads of the delegation of over 100 Rivers state student leaders who came for the courtesy visit had intimated Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs of some of the challenges which the students faced, including harassment, victimization, mobilization and mobility, non-payment of bursaries despite the state being one of the richest in Nigeria, shabby treatment of students by successive governments over time and the deliberate bureaucratic frustrations students encounter in their efforts to interact with the leadership of the state, the insecurity in the campuses and how students lives are put in danger, as well as the decaying infrastructure in most state universities amongst other issues raised.

The Rivers state students leaders recalled the wonderful philanthropic works of High Chief O.B Lulu-Briggs especially in areas such as education, health and human capacity development through skills acquisitions and training, and equally applauded the good works of Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, particularly in his contributions to youth development through programs like the Google Training, the various outreaches of the Dumo Lulu-Briggs Youth Foundation (DYF23) towards students training, paying of school fees, accessibility to JAMB and WAEC forms, and all round students development, training and welfare amongst others.

They then pledged their readiness to support the Accord Party candidate by ensuring that all nooks and crannies of Rivers State campuses will be canvassed and students will be conscientized to ensure victory, adding that they would work hard to make sure all those who have PVC’s, who vote in Rivers State will vote Accord party, and while assuring that it was now time to fight for a better future for the Rivers State youth, praised Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs who they described as a leader and not just an ordinary politician, and expressed their unshakable belief that with Dumo Lulu-Briggs as governor the lot of the Rivers State students and youths will be positively revolutionized through dedicated policies aimed at equipping the youths with all tools and skills to compete favorably worldwide in bringing up creative, innovative, ground breaking results in all sectors of the Nigerian society, all of which would help mould youths that will make Rivers State a proud state.

Highlight of the meeting between Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs and the delegation of the student community of Rivers State, which was made up of reputable heads of organisations, heads of campuses and national leaders and led by past Student Union Government President of University of Port Harcourt, Comrade Chukwu Endwell, who was also the spokesman of the group, President of the National Union of Rivers State students (NURSS) Comrade Patrick Ogbuehi, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) leader, Comrade David Barineka, as well as the present SUG President of the University of Port Harcourt, Comrade Loveday ThankGod Sobari, amongst others, was the observance of a one minute silence in memory of High Chief Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs, the father of Dumo Lulu-Briggs, who passed on recently.
